On this day, July 3, the day before America's celebration of Independence (July 4), be it known that the commerical industries have averred anew the fundamental element of nationhood: race. Perhaps as unintentionally as inevitably, the pursuit of cosmetic sales, the lust for feminine beauty itself has avowed again the post-Deluvian account of race: the sons (in this case the daughters) of Noah (Genesis 10 & 11).

Obviously, the daughters of Shem, Ham, and Japeth, before
our eyes, in the year AD 2006 (Heb. 5767).
Cheers for NIVEA?
Perhaps, before we celebrate the birth of our nation, we ought to simply reconsider some of the basic, historical precedents for concept of nationhood. Originally, it meant a particular race, a religion, a language, and geographic boundaries. As a former college teacher of humanities, I presented the rise and fall of nations innumerable times, or so it seemed. The patterns were fairly clear. Nationhood was natural. And if your nation had anything that was valuable, if even only land, your nation would eventually be confronted with another nation--there to take yours from you. And thus is the story of nations.
America as a nation presents some real anomalies, historically. The "nation" was obviously formed by British people, who were Caucasian, who were Christian, and who were Protestant. We call them White, Anglo-Saxon Protestants. These people created the nation. All others came in on the take later. They can never be credited with having builty the country that is called America, the United States. American Indians have a lot more to do with the shaping of American than do any others coming here later.
But the matter of race seems moot. There may be no point it pursuing it, but there is still the fundamental idea that there are basically three racial types, and people like J. Philippe Rushton still advocate such on a professed scientific basis. The Canadian professor is controversial, of course, but, with the obvious and overwhelming support of the beauty cream industry (--which is no doubt preoccupied with the pursuit of the fountain of youth, or eternity, or religion), Dr. Rushton is as worthy of consideration as is 'free enterprise!' Surely, Americans must respond to that.

Dr. J. Philippe Rushton, professor of evolutionary psychology
and ethnic variations, Unviersity of Western Ontario.
My critics have, in the past, scoffed at my apparent pre-occupation with race. Modern geneticists of course laugh the matter to scorn. But I say, look at the NIVEA add. It speaks for itself. Even at this late age in human history, the pursuit of the beautiful leads us to the same ancient reference, the same triad of aesthetic circumference. There are philosophers who believed that aesthetics is the one truth derivable from human psychology. Certainly the ancient, classical Greek philosophers believed aesthetics was a nature pursuit of consciousness.
It is late in human history, or so it seems. Yet, we're in the same place, aesthetically. Oh yes, modern "quality" laws want to dictate that all is beautiful, when it clearly isn't. The aberrations of modern political ideology are hell-bent on crushing all that is normal and natural and pleasant. Yet, even so, free enterprise reaffirms the human race in it's most basic particulars. NIVEA says it all: "You ain't gone nowhere, baby!" I find that reassuring.

Posted by: home remedies for acne on March 10, 2011 01:41 AMWe all know that junk foods is definitely horrible on a eating plan. If you want to burn up stomach fat, you can't do it by shoveling junk down your throat. And, I'm not talking about sugary sweets and sodas - I'm talking about the overly processed "healthy" meals that are absolutely not balanced.

It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Posted by: SMART Repair Glasgow on March 1, 2011 05:33 PMMultiracial countries are probably here for good.
Look at Nazi Germany -- even Hitler with all his power and propogandistic might was not able to restore Germany to a single race. Even the fearsome Jim Crow could not eradicate blacks. Pogoms did not purge the land of Jews.
I'm not inclined to believe that race is necessarily a construct of the nation, but was rather always a happy sojurner with culture, birth, and other facets of a population. In history, the population was never as mobile as they are today; with mobility comes widespread intermarriage and cultural contact. Or perhaps you could argue that mobility redefines the definition of a nation.
B, We the People created Hollywood, no?
It's such an incredibly immature enterprise. Kid stuff, all of it. Play. It's all playing.
But, I guess that's what people really love.
You can create what you want, in fantasy. You can be beautiful, eternal, loved, etc...
Posted by: David Yeagley on July 4, 2006 01:39 PMBodvar,
As long as there is this great tribe of "hollywood," we are subject to this. If we are silent against them, but make people aware that hate them, we fight a much better war. Stop going to movies, do not buy Dipsy Sh*t records. Just stop giving to them and they will go away. As long as they have the money, and TV runs "Entertainment Tonight" as it is Gospel, then we have to listen. Turn off the TV, get out and enjoy.

Posted by: Two Raven on July 4, 2006 12:56 PMThis isn't "on-topic", but I wanted to bring this up anyway.
I was surfing around this morning -- July 4, a day set aside to celebrate our country and its independence, and to winning and maintaining that independence -- and what do I run into? It was mention of a soon-to-be released DVD version of a program shown on the Showtime cable channel last year. It's called "Masters of Horror: Homecoming".
The product description on Amazon states:
"It’s a few weeks before the Presidential election and an unpopular war still rages overseas. But when the Republican administration wishes that our dead troops could return to tell America how proud they were to serve their country, veterans begin to rise from their flag-draped coffins for the most horrific reason of all: to vote. Are they gloriously resurrected heroes or braindead zombie dissidents? And even if the administration can devise the proper spin in time to steal their re-election, will an army of men and women killed for a lie finally show our nation the true face of hell?"
Hollywood slips us one again.
I wonder what our veterans think of being USED in this way. I can assure you that THIS veteran is mighty steamed!
I raise this to your awareness because it's better to be forewarned, so that one might better be forearmed. Some think that all of this anti-war bilge is simple hooliganism. Some think that it is protected speech. (If that's the case, and it's free speech, then I want the folks producing this nonsense to provide this to us free. If it's for sale, it's not free speech.)
Ultimately, some think that a nation shouldn't do things which they don't support. If you don't support this war, I'm here to tell you "too bad". It's a fact on the ground. I don't support what affirmative action's turned into -- racial gerrymandering, businesses and communities hamstrung by artificial fairness, school admissions departments bending over backwards to admit the black son of a doctor rather than the poor white son of a mechanic -- but it's a fact on the ground. Still in all, nobody's dying in or for affirmative action. Folks are dying to beat back these easily demonstrable savages we're up against internationally.
So, the "artist" who gave us "Gremlins" has decided to use our war dead to make his tawdry little political point. I'm sure that he'll now get invites to the right industry cocktail parties. Good for him. Good for his career.
This is execrable. Cindy Sheehan is using her dead son. Joe Dante is using our war dead in general. Michael Moore is using our wounded out of context in his "documentaries".
Is dissent patriotic? Certainly it is. It's just that none of THIS dissent is.

Posted by: Bodvar on July 4, 2006 12:38 PMListen, science will move with or without us and they are a commerce. WIthout funding themselfs, they would not be able to conduct their research and development. Then, they impliment their ideas in the form of testing on humans so to speak, to see if their funding was worth it.
R&D? I find their methods somewhat questionable. It is like, "hey, I have a degree, and a scientific idea. Fund me and I will show you just what I am thinking." Commerce runs the world. Without funding, we are all Pakestan.

Posted by: Two Raven on July 4, 2006 11:45 AMI just thought it was interesting that, even in the beauty business, the marketing business, it comes down to the Triumverate: caucasian, negro, and mongolian. There's something really great about that. Something deep, powerful, and lasting.
I think commerce--what people want, supercedes science any day. People tend to believe what makes them feel better. Scientific theories about this, that, and the other, are only tolerated. Not really espoused.
What we like, what we want, that's where the action is. Science sometimes has a hard sell.
Posted by: David Yeagley on July 4, 2006 09:51 AMDoc!
Heck yes!
TR
Posted by: Two Raven on July 3, 2006 07:05 PMSo, you don't believe in Beauty? (Just kidding.)
I supposed one could say that, through trade, or commerce, a certain degree of integration is inevitable. But to make it a philosophy, a purpose, a cause, that's something else, indeed.
I think were definitely supposed to be aware of each other, but, to try to rub each other out, by war or by intermarriage, that can't be helpful--though both methods of encounter seem to be quite natural.
Integration always means intermarriage, and intermarriage may in fact mean a dilution of a national identity. It certain puts the national identity in an abstract mode, an ideology, rather than the basic, historical mode where nations are based on ethnicity.
Posted by: David Yeagley on July 3, 2006 06:02 PMWhy am I always the one to start conversation?? LOL
As you know, for my prior writings - I am a strong believer that we have been conquered once, then twice and it still is going on. We thought in the 80's that Japan was buying the United States. Now, we are being conquered again by a race that says they were here first, the mexicans. The Africans state they did not come here, that here brought them from there, but they still have their hands out.
The Indian cultures that were established long before the Nordic contact of the east and midwest had things in good control. We had our problems, but we were living in the Garden of Eden. We had more than enough to eat, use and give back. We had our lands in which we knew what Mother Earth needed to keep going. We had it all, with no currency.
Now? Well guys, look around. Mother Earth is not healing in a very quick or proportion manor. The red was to take care of the land, yellow - oceans, black - sky and the white? Still trying to figure that. But we were NEVER supposed to intergrate.
History states that intergration is the downfall of society because it is a conquer in itself. Is a new culture suppose to be derived to solve all, or will it destroy? Again, look back.
Remember to learn from history so it can never happen again? Well, it has happened. We will never learn.
