Comments: Redskin Magazine--No kidding!

Well, Sheena! Welcome to Bad Eagle. Of course, this is an archived blog, and I'm not sure folks are going to see it. I will make a note of it on the site, and cut and paste your comments in an update place.

This is great! I'm so happy you wrote. We all have mixed feelings about any great move forward. Great moves always involved great risks.

So, look for something under the forums. I'd love it if you joined us. I've been lied about more than I can assess. But, again, great moves forward always call up great resistance. Rob Schmidt is not exactly dishonest, just biased--with all the bias of Lefty whites who want to tell Indians how to think and feel--to suit white liberal views, etc.

Thanks again for chiming in. May 5 blog. Your response, July 1. Hmmmm. I'll try to say something more provocative next time!

Yes it is me, in the written word!

So I'm reading the comments on your article here...and wow, very shocked at all the closed minds. I have been challenged as a writer by Mr. Rob Shmidt, and now a mention from apparent controversial David Yeagly.

Let me introduce myself Mr. Yeagly, as a composer yourself I expect you to understand where I'm coming from with no sympathies toward me or anyone... not as a native person, not as a person with possible european lineage, not as a woman...but as a human being with for a love and passion for MUSIC.

I Sheena Wassegijig, am the Music Writer for the Media Arts Department, specializing in NATIVE and MAINSTREAM artists. I go to the shows, I interview the artist face to face, I stay up writing 6 articles a night. I have a photographer that accompanies me to these shows who is not of native origin (asif that really matters when it comes to pure talent)... I am also a Writer, and have been since the age of 13, journalism to be exact. I know the game and I know how to follow the rules with my own flare.

Writing has been my passion my entire life, from childhood, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let some old men tear me down, especially for being NATIVE. And until now, my entire life...my race has never been an issue with anyone, anywhere...gotta love Canada, home of native land.

[I have the utmost respect for my elders, its a given in this culture, those who "study" natives should have an understanding of teachings and such... but being an individual matters too, also I am not a feminist...lol]

Honestly, does any of this "hate" or lack of understanding matter? especially when it comes to basic acceptance of creativity and new endeavors...why can't people just be supportive? But no, I guess thats not the world we live in. Something new, something to fear, knock 'em of that pedestal so someone else can claw their way up. That's just the way it goes, and when is that going to end.

Supremecy, Racism, Sexism...who gives a fuck? its old news! its been done...lets move on people...RED, WHITE, BLACK, YELLOW...and even PURPLE...(Yes, I do laugh and mock everything, because it doesnt effect me directly unless I give a damn- even though people have been fighting for it for so long...its been too long, so I no longer give a shit...I just LIVE MY LIFE)

So thank you for mentioning me in your blog and recognizing the message I was getting across to Rob Shmidt.

The Inhabitants of this world are all Artists in some way or form. Induldge and Encourage Creativity in every single person, young or old, not looking at skin color or beliefs. Because an artistic heart can change the way we look at everything.

I do not cast hate towards anyone or anything. I support and accept everyone and every culture. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Please Take the following in, Breath It , Live It...

WISDOM: in order to better your life through the knowledge of life.

LOVE: so that you may take it to your people; to be able to teach them to speak well of each other.

RESPECT: show Respect for all things here on earth, all people, regardless of race or language.

BRAVERY: there will be a time when you have problems. So never let go what has been given to you.

HONESTY: to live the right, in an honest way, to speak well of your fellow man, to know and think through whatever life brings.

HUMILITY: try to live in harmony and balance on earth. One should not think himself above others, while walking here on earth.
And Finally

TRUTH: when all these teachings have been understood.

With peace and love towards you and your readers,
~Sheena Wassegijig~

"If this magazine makes money just think of the possible spin-off vetures:

Doc, as an old married man I'll tell ya: Those jingles of hers are Working!!!!!

*Indians always last in line* Dr. Yeagley writes

In relation to this article and porn, sex and the native female, you got that right! No pun intended toward the Indian male.

Hmmm.....Native women are not that bad you know. But white women are. I am working at a place where the white women are in their late fifties. One is taking hormone pills to keep her menstruation cycle going. She feels that once she loses her monthly ordeal she is no longer desirable and no longer a female. The difference is Native women feel this is a sacred time in their lives and welcome the transition as white women want to bleed.

Now as far as squaws and Indian women spreading them legs for cash, why not speak on the old dried up white women like the one I mentioned that still spread them legs...create a white magazine based on porn called aged whitey spreads it like peanut butta!

Squaw huh? Squaw huh? Grrrrr! Papoose huh? *sharpening knife*

Eco, those of us who believe in the good Lord know that we are never so desperate as to HAVE to sin. We never HAVE to sin.

Sin wouldn't be wrong, if we had no choice.

But, like Hipocrites said, (or was that Socrates): The worse sin is ignorance.

Not knowing the truth about sin, about faith, about God, is true slavery. But, you see, people reject sentiments that would lead them to the Lord--before they know what they're doing! Then it seems too late to extricate themselves from the vices they have been enslaved in.

Posted by David Yeagley at May 9, 2008 02:25 PM

And I know this system we have in place stinks. It is rigged and a ponzi scam. But it is what it is. We have no choice but to survive. Porn is just another way for people to survive in this economic system. That is another way to make cash. It is all about making money. Money is survival. It is one big train wreck. The economic system dictates everything. It is actually pathetic and goes against everything natural. That is why we are detached from the natural earth systems and becoming MACHINES. We are closer to machine now than human. But thats the systems. A COG. Porn? Do it! get some trinkets and baubles and cash! Spread them legs!

Hee hee!
Oh Betty Ann you know I do not mean that. Just getting tired of these folks posting who have this blanket statement that everyone who came after the American Indian were slavers and such and such and were all evil. I just do not know any slavers and my family came here in the 1600s! I sure do not want to kill my Aunt thats for sure!

Posted by ecology at May 9, 2008 01:15 PM

Damn Indians! Kill us all! Miserable wretches!

Posted by betty ann at May 9, 2008 11:44 AM

Andrew Jackson should have wiped you all out maybe. It just seems that that would have put you out of your misery. Indians seem so miserable. Just horrible. Just like any other HUMAN race. They want power and resources. Your no different. Get off your high horse of superiority. I live more spartan and close to the earth than these redskins I see on the res. people in general are getting sick and tired of it all. Slavers? No one I know has ever had anything to do with slavers. Your a miserable lot of wretches. You are killing my noble images of Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, Chief Joseph, Sitting Bull. Killing it!

You forgot to include the handing out of small pox infected blankets.

Yep. But you know, "skin," in and of it self is associated with porno. Since the late 70's, "skin pictures," or just "skin" meant nude pictures.

Now, let's see; was the "skin" of "Redskin" a factor here? Did they name the magazine Redskin because they wanted the implications of "skin" pictures?

I wonder.

Well Betty
What I think Billy is saying is what we talked about before. America's sweet talk is not as David believes, Mom, apple pie and God but, Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll.Phi

Every culture has it's lowest common denominator and its highest common denominator. It is just human nature. Every culture has its warriors, its poets, it's musicians, deep thinkers and its sleaze.
I've just gotta say, though, those things on Ashley's chest look like they HURT!

Posted by MacMutOkee at May 7, 2008 08:00 PM

Billy Buff, I wasn't consulted in this matter!

I'd like to see us "arrive" in different places, better places, but, hey, I represent one opinion.

Indians- always last in line.

My vision is that we be FIRST in line of the American patriots. That would mean advocating the kinds of things that make a country strong.

This magazine isn't one of them. This magazine reflects the kinds of personal dysfunctional experiences, broken families, psychological affects, abuse, etc., that most people in the "entertainment" business have been through. Thus, the "sex" emphasis in the magazine. I've seen all this. I was in social work for a number of years back east.

Anyway, your congratulations are reluctantly accepted...

The people that love to call me a white supremist are themselves the white supremist--repeating exactly the lines they have been taught by white liberals!

Also, I meant to say that the word "model" has been usurped, like most liberal words. "Model" used to refer to a woman (or man) who was deplaying clothes, fashions. It was a form of advertising. A "model" was about showing clothes.

Now porno persons call themselves "models," and they are whowing their bodies--with no clothes! This is a lying fraud, as most liberal causes. They are not models. They have robbed that good word (or at least neutral specific), and made it a cover for their immoral, bad cause- pornography.

Posted by David Yeagley at May 7, 2008 09:38 AM

Beautifully written. Native American sexuality will never reach in its entirety the porn setting. Even though there are some issues that need to be addressed in relation to sexual activity; the elders still have a strong voice in the future of their oyates.

Our reservations are home to some of the most exotic looking women and masculine native men. They are the blood lines that will keep that SAVAGE that REDSKIN and that killer instinct alive in all of us. We are savages, redskins, warriors both male and female, that instinct to fight exists in all of us. So yes, Dr. Yeagley alot of people do read your site and even though they call you a white supremist etc. your words are powerful. A true warrior yourself.

Excellent article.
