Jews and the Dumb Blonde

by David Yeagley · May 27, 2010 · 19 Comments ·

Did Jews invent the dumb blonde? Everyone knows that image–the young, beautiful female blonde who can’t think. Where did she come from, and when? Is there a why? Is it even a valid image? Can a cultural stereotype actually be invented?

In American culture, the first dumb blonde was in fact a Jewish girl, Judith Tuvim, from Sunnyside, Queens. She was on stage as a fumbling dumb blonde as early as 1956 in “The Bells Are Ringing,” (for which she won a Tony). The stage musical was later made into a movie. Judy had been an extra in an Orsen Welles film in 1938 (Too Much Johnson), but she was already the universally established dumb blonde by 1954, as Gladys Glover in It Should Happen to You. She was the kind of dumb blonde that, as mazeltov would have it, ends up on top of the situation, despite her disjunct personality. She wins. The dumb blonde female is the victor. The white female body is the draw, and a curious fate provides the compassion. The stars pity her, and she wins.

Judy Holliday, the original dumb blonde.
She was innocent, hopeful, and Jewish
Born in Queens, 1921, died in 1965.

Now, this is show business, this is New York, this is Hollywood. Speaking of stereotypes, everyone generally accepts the Jewish dominance in this media. (Jews did invent Hollywood, no question about that. No one else saw any potential in the “moving picture” phenomenon in the beinning. A few Jews did. They created the business, and they’re certainly not to be faulted for that.) And, this dumb blonde image was created in the 40’s and 50’s, especially after WWII was over. (Judy Holliday was in on the war movie bit, too: Winged Victory, 1944.)

And what was WWII all about for Jews? Degradation. It was about that German denigration and cruel humiliation of Jewish people, the disdain for their darker coloring, and rather the exaltation of the blue-eyed blonde “Aryan.” The superior race. The master race.

So, American media Jewry comes up with the dumb blonde.

Eye for eye. Tooth for tooth. If the Germen propaganda presented the superior blonde, American Jewish media would show the dumb blonde. And yet the Jewish dumbe blonde did win in the end, partly because of her prettiness, but mainly because of her dumbness.

It seemed, in a way, a covert new sex appeal stunt. Take the mind away from the girl, and all you have left is the body–the more appealing for its psychological nudity. This may have been part of the invention, but, the timing of its occurrence is apropos for the overthrough of the German superior blonde type. It reduced the implied German to the mere body, having removed that lofty intellect.

But it also reflected the Jewish experience. Yes, the dumb blonde was mistreated, demeaned, ridiculed, as the Jews were by the Germans; but, in the end, she triumphs–for the very reasons she is scoffed. Her simple, positive, joyful approach to life, like a Pollyanna, was to be honored. Whatever her plight for being who and what she was, in the end, she was the winner. It’s called an optimistic take, vicarious but victorious. The Jews are eternal optimists. Isn’t that a great thing? A thing to be cherished? The dumb blonde was a remarkable testimony to Jewish faith.

Judy Holliday, the Jewish dumb blonde, created an enduring stereotype that many others employed–without any association with history or social issues. Marilyn Monroe, Jane Mansfield, and a host of others continued to benefit from it. Even today, the image is still lucrative. Some actresses perpetuate it in nearly all their roles. Melanie Griffeth (Working Girl, 1988), and Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde, 2001) are just two examples. The image is, for some reason, permanent. Dumb blonde jokes are ubiquitous. The repertoire is ever-expanding.

Funny, how all the darkies of the world still prize the blonde, the American blonde, as the ultimate triumph. Dumb or smart, it’s the blonde they want, from the writhing Negro to the frothing Arab. In a way, the blonde is still the victor. Just for being born blonde. I’d say blondes need to preserve themselves, and stop indulging the darkies. That truly is dumb. It should cease.

So, we can look at Judy Holliday as the mother of all dumb blondes, with all the social accoutrements attendant. We can look at the dumb blonde as a Jewish media invention which became a social stereotype based on sexual attraction combined with a desire for justice. It was a kind of medicine, meant to heal the social distortions of Nazi Germany.

Unfortunately, for all her salubrious effect, Judy died at 44, of breast cancer.

For those interested in authenticating the notions of this piece, you might consider Hitler’s remarks in Mein Kampf, on p. 325 (Manheim edition). He claims the black-haired Jewish youth delights, with satanic joy, to defile the German girl (presumably the bright haired, blue-eyed blonde).

The Judy Holliday image of the dumb blonde is a not only a slap at the superior Aryan blonde image, but also a triumph for the abused blonde female–covertly the Jewish woman, symbolizing the Jews of Nazi Germany.

These things may seem obstruse, but, I think they are real.

Hitler was a dirty-minded mongrel with dark hair! and a smudge of a mustache that made him look like he played out in the dirt too much.. He was also ignorant of the fact that many Ashekenazim, or Jews of central and eastern Europe, were fair-skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes. In contrast, the Sephardim Jews of Spain and Portugal and the Jews who managed to stay in the region of Palestine after the dispersion of their people from Jerusalem in 70 A.D. are usually dark-haired and dark-eyed with olive skin. :
Then, of course, you have the Falasha Jews of Eithiopia, the descendants of King Melenik I, the son of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, who are black-skinned but are a very refined and elegant-looking people. They look like descendants of royalty.
Personally speaking, I do not have anything against blondes, or redheads, but I love being a natural born brunette! That said, I really feel hair color or skin color for that matter, has nothing to do with intelligence. Common sense? Now that’s another matter. I believe it was Calvin Coolidge who said that higher education is a fine aspiration, but “be wary for the world is full of educated derelicts.”

All that I know is when I went to Mexico in the Huitchol country, people have such a big complex of inferiority that they have fantasy on all the blond haired tourist women who come and visit Mexico ..

Same thing in Tunisia where you see many buses full of women from Scandinavia whom with Tunisian men would like to get married.

I assume all the people that have been dominated to Europeans have that reactions ..

They have beautiful women in Mexico and in Tunisia but may fell inferior !! that’s sad..

I am not sure it’s because of the stereotype of the blond woman on movies from Hollywood but because of History.

Bless the blind people who don’t have such stereotype..

Spanish Jews were also known as Marranos. Also, there has been a long prejudice against brunette women throughout history. Dark-haired women were often portrayed in medieval and classic literature as evil, scheming vixens or crazy shrews while blondes were portrayed as innocent and angelic heroines.

Actually, Jews from Northern Africa have different roots (except the ones from Morocoo) : middle east, Turkey, Persians sometimes, nomad tribes.

Everybody is pretty much mixed in these areas..

On the actual fate of authentic blondes:

In any art, rules and discipline do not hinder creativity; rather, they provide a framework which supports it.

Too much of present-day entertainment is dull and useless to me.

The old “Twilight Zone,” as one example, actually produced very imaginative and interesting entertainment experiences.

BTW, what do the readers here think about the introduction of Buddhism and Taoism in the 1970s in the “Kung Fu” television series? That certainly was a first in American culture!

  • 8 Pamela K. // May 27, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Kung Fu was an interesting and unconventional program for that time period when shows like Star Trek and Bonanza were still in primetime. Personally I always liked the late 80’s series “China Beach”.
Today I rarely watch television, but I do like some shows like NCIS and The Unit. I cannot stand “Reality TV” Shows.

I have pretty much turned off the television more than ten years ago — at least as far as seeking entertainment goes.

This episode of Kung Fu deals with the American Indian. It also was intended to suggest that the wisdom of the American Indian and that of the Chinese Taoist sages are of the very same nature and differ only in name (see the “foot-notes” the poster has added to his video upload). Of course, I cannot address this authoritatively, but I do know that true wisdom is wisdom.

“The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice. He will not be moved forever; the uncompromisingly righteous, in right standing with God, shall be in everlasting rememberance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting in and leaning on, and being confident in the Lord.”
    Psalm 111: 1, 5, 6, 7

So, lighter color is associated with better character? Darker colors are associated with evil? Is that the natural, psychological reaction in the human race?

  • 12 Illana // May 28, 2010 at 12:35 am

    Not at all ..

I hope for you you are not convinced by such beliefs ! it’s cultural reaction from people that have been influenced from stereotypes on TV and movies and may be dominated in History by Europeans.

People that have a very strong personality and enough pride will never associate white skin and blond hair with purity….

Otherwise I am not a human being as I don’t have this reaction ??

Hmmm… I would think that in American culture the truly dumb folk are the ones who still drink the racist Koolaid of Family Values on the Right, and Multi-cultism on the Left.

Europeans did not invent invasion or conquest. They just perfected it, hence all the moronic prattling in the hollow Ivy League about “White Privilege” and other such multi-culti nonsense. The notion that one “race” is superior or inferior to another is a game for the weak and the stupid. Blonde or otherwise. The notion that one race, such as the Jews, are responsible for our collective depravity can only be entertained by a mind twisted with hate and utterly without a sense of personal accountability. This is something the racist multi-cultist cannot grasp anymore than a Klansman standing in a cow pasture with a torch.

  • 14 David Yeagley // May 28, 2010 at 9:24 am

The racists find comfort in having a race to blame, though. There’s a certain finality, a certain “having arrived.” Hard to resist in times of social uncertainty. (Like, there’s another time? Well, it’s all relative.)

WT, I always appreciate your summaries! Best always.

Illana, experiements have show, even in infants, that brighter colors are preferred. It is a visual behavior reality. It also involved Gestalt psychology.

  • 16 Illana // May 28, 2010 at 11:24 am

I am not convinced at all …

  • 17 Thrasymachus // May 28, 2010 at 1:22 pm

So, lighter color is associated with better character? Darker colors are associated with evil? Is that the natural, psychological reaction in the human race?

These color associations have existed long before a general race-consciousness. They simply were then applied after the fact to race.
In religion, darkness is always associated with evil, light with purity and goodness. These associations were not derived from observations of races. Indeed, the N.T. says that “God is Light.” (Not as in a skin-color, but the quality which shines and makes sight possible.)

While some extreme White “racists” may blame Jews for all the evils in the world, there really is a much deeper issue — many Whites find Whiteness beautiful and want to preserve it. Such Whites, myself included, blame Whites for their own immorality. Nevertheless, we want our kind to survive for aesthetic reasons. Moreover, it has been proven that even infants who cannot yet talk perceive and are puzzled by racial differences–“what do they mean?” wonders the infant.

Studies have shown that many people prefer the visual or aesthetic qualities of the European peoples. I’m sorry, but I find a Dutch or Irish (i.e., White) female attractive, rather than Oprah Winfrey or any other Black.

  • 18 Thrasymachus // May 28, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Preferring to live with your own people, rather than in a forced multicultural, communist mix, is not immoral, nor is it inherently hateful. One can prefer one’s own culture without any hatred at all of other cultures. Agree with me, or not, I will not waste time arguing this point.
